Poems by
Maria Deyana
Poems in poetry book “The Wounds”
is one whole made of one could say, three different cycles of poetric
weaving with the aim to sing a destiny of one being in a whirlwind of
distruction at the end of the twentieth century in the agitated Balkans.
Scream and shout of the destroyed, moan of the outcasts and dignity of a
man are the constants that hold this poetry upright, poetry weaved from
deepest living experience and spread as a statement that does not leave
anyone impassive. The poet knows from the experience what she wants from
her poems, she plays with emotions that vary, as well as the maserly
mother tongue that she observes from a decent distance not forgetting
all of it's beauties and meanings.
Her poetry is woven from dreams, but also from life in which she does
not forget, but forgives, in which one can see bottom, but also feel
hope. All stipulations that the poet is offering to us are open, but at
the same time hidden so we can slowly and with pleasere unravel them
ourselves.
And when she goes together with us, or we with her, to the future, and
maybe even further, she says in her poem "Brother or Angel"
"And we shall go
Into future
With sufferings carved
In heart"
